Grade 8 May 17th/2012
Math - We have begun our work on the space and shape unit. We've reviewed and practised using formulas for finding areas of triangles, quadrilaterals, circles and complex shapes. Many of the students just seem to need a refresher, while others will need to continue reviewing and practising at home. Nets and surface area of polyhedra are bing introduced. Several questions are being explored in class, and students are expected to continue working hard until the end of June.
***This week, the band students have been away, and are expected to have the completed math package on "Sketching views of objects (8.1) and Drawing Views of Objects (8.1)"with them tomorrow. The art students have had time to complete these same packages at school, while the band students were away*** Science questions on reflection and shadows is to be completed as well.
Science Optics is the topic of the month... The next 2 months will be very busy, with sports, band trips, art gallery visits and of course...curriculum!!!! There is still a lot of work to be done, so let's help the kids stay focussed and finish the year with a flair!!
Reflection and refraction will have several mini labs associated with them, and the students will be expected to complete and submit all of their work. Daily work is setting the stage for assessment success as well as an overall understanding of physics in your life.
Art - Norman Rockwell was an amazing exhibit...once in a lifetime opportunity. A tour of the other galleries and time in the studio were some of the other experiences taken in yesterday. Awesome!!!
