"PAW IT FORWARD" CAMPAIGN (March 2011 - May 2011)

The "Paw it Forward" campaign will be kicked off by a class presentation by SMS's very own, Mary Carey. Mary currently volunteers her time at a local animal shelter. She will be invited into our class to talk about her experiences and work at the shelter.

In an effort to help MB animals in need, the Service Learning students of SMS will be baking dog bones to fundraise money for various shelters in our area. In early April, we will be going on a tour of the WHS facility and taking part in an information session to learn more about their needs.

We hope this initiative will be a success!!

Read on to see all of the wonderful things we are doing this school year!

We have been doing a lot of cool activities, some of the things we have been doing in Service Learning is the Terry Fox Walk, we acted as route markers telling people where to go. We also made t-shirts for the walk, we put great effort into all of our ideas.  We made a TAG activity which was called the Halloween Hula-Hoot; everybody participated and had lots of fun! We also made bulletin boards to advertise all the different activities were doing! The grade 6’s made sock puppets for sick children and it was a great success! They also helped with the Terry Fox memory wall.  Everybody is enjoying service learning so far, it is a great way to become a better person!

Our students will be travelling to Winnipeg Harvest on Dec. 13th and 20th to help pack and sort food items for the holiday season. We are also in the midst of our holiday hamper drive, we will be collecting food items until December 15th. A schoolwide holiday TAG activity is being planned for December 17 during periods 7 & 8.

Please note that our students are putting together the RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS board for our school in the front foyer, please be sure to check it out!
